Last night I went to the showing of Infra Man at the Loft Cinema. It's part of their Mondo Monday series, where each Monday they show a really bad movie. One that's so bad you just can't take your eyes off the screen. So far, besides Infra Man, I've also seen The Brain that Wouldn't Die. Both worthy of being included as a Mondo Monday Feature.
The basic premise of Infra Man seemed to be that some weird monsters that looked quite a bit like people in weird rubber costumes were trying to take over the World. So a professor created Infra Man to beat up the monsters using Kung Fu skills and boots that sparked as Infra Man flew through the air. Add in quite a number of other skeleton looking monsters and a whole group of military scientists Kung Fuing each other and you pretty much have the entire plot wrapped up. Oh, toss in an Earth quake, some motorcycles racing around, a radar dish, and whatever other footage happens to be lying around. It'll fit right in.
Now just so you can join in the fun, stop by the Loft on Mondays before 8pm (showtime), get your ticket ($2) and a Mondo Monday Munchie bucket ($1) -- which is all the Halloween-type candy you can fit in a small cup -- and sit back and prepare to have a great laugh.
And just so you can check out what's playing next, the title will click right through to the Mondo Monday schedule.

Quick Update
A couple of quick things: First, a new Read went up in case you're looking for it. Just click through to Read All About It on the right. Second, I've added a link to Black Mesa Ranch so that you, too, can get some of the best goat cheeses around.
A word about the links. They are provided, only because I like the product. Period.

August 2007 Movies at Cinema La Placita

Sorry for the lack of posting. Had to travel a bit, so this has to go by the wayside. During my travlel, I realized just how lucky we are here in Tucson. We have good restaurants. Believe it or not, not all cities do. I spent a week in another city, asked everyone I could find for good restaurants, and they always pointed me towards a chain like crapplebee's. By the time the week was up, I could see why. It was the best restaurant there. Now that is really saying something is it? Crapplebee's, a knockoff of other chain restaurants, being the best. So yes, be glad you live in Tucson, where you can find good restaurants.
Speaking of restaurants, I noticed that Centro Bistro was closing. Some of you might remember that it was in the restored train depot downtown, and that it recieved a swinging deal from the city for a 10 year lease. Basically, 18 months free and reduced rent afterwards. And now it is closed with the owners thinking of suing the city because of the construction nearby as they claim that is what put them out of business. It isn't. I know because I ate there.
Now I'm not saying the food was bad. I'm just saying that it didn't fit in downtown Tucson. It was rather pretentious, rather pricey, and just OK tastewise. It seemed more like a Cailfornia restaurant that was out of place. Of course, I'll admit that I'm completely biased. I've been eating downtown for years (yes, years), and I've seen the other places struggle to survive but get no help from the city. Then this new place comes along and gets what seems like an unfair advantage. So I never had any interest in going. I did go once, when everything else was pretty much shut for the summer season, so I do have some idea of what the food was like.
Well, enough ranting.
